PostGame: Mets 3 Astros 1 (Game 2)
by
Rob
on Sat 08 Sep 2007 04:00 PM EDT
The Mets defeated the Astros today by a score of 3-1. Tom Glavine got his 13th win, pitching brilliantly for 7+ innings, allowing only 1 run. Woody Williams took the loss for the 'Stros.
Glavine has been great since his last loss on July 3rd.
David Wright got the scoring going, hitting an opposite field homer in the 3rd.
You really cant say much more about D Wright, hes been amazing.
In the 4th, Shawn Green and Paul Lo Duca hit back to back doubles, driving in a run.
Green and Lo Duca have been swinging better of late, just in time for October.
Luis Castillo scored the last Mets run on a wild pitch in the 5th.
In other news, Moises Alou extended his hitting streak to 13 Games.
Billy Wagner closed it out, pitching a perfect 9th for his 31st save.
LETS GO METS!

Rob
on Fri 07 Sep 2007 10:31 PM EDT
The Mets clobbered the Houston Astros by a score of 11-3 today at Shea. Mike Pelfrey got his second win as as many starts, allowing 2 runs in 5.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 2.
Pelfrey was solid. he kept us in the game, all u can ask for.
Carlos Beltran and Lastings Milledge both went deep for the Mets tonight. Jose Reyes also had his first triple in a long long time.
I couldnt remember the last time he tripled.
Moises Alou also extended his hitting streak to 12 games, going 2-4 with a double.
Alouuu is raking.
Tomorrows game starts at 1:10 pm. Tom Glavine will pitch for the Mets. Opposing him will be Wood Williams.
Lets Go Mets!

on Fri 07 Sep 2007 06:40 PM EDT
Mike Pelfrey (1-7 5.43) will be taking the mound as he tries to get his 2nd victory of the season. Last Saturday was probably the best pitching performance by Pelfrey giving up 1 run in 6 innings. The Astros will send the south paw Wandy Rodriguez (8-12 4.49) Back in July Wandy had a complete game shutout while striking out 8 against the Mets. In that very same game Pelfrey was cruising until the 5th inning when he walked Ausmus, gave up a rbi dounle to Hunter Pence which was then followed up by a 2 run homer by Lance Berkman.
C'mon Mike show everyone that last weeks performance wasn't a fluke.
The Mets lineup is as follows:
1) SS Jose Reyes
2) 2B Luis Castillo
3) 3B David Wright
4) CF Carlos Beltran
5) LF Moises Alou
6) 1B Jeff Conine
7) C Paul Lo Duca
8) RF Lastings Milledge
9) P Mike Pelfrey
Due to the lefty on the mound Jeff Conine will get the start and Shawn Green will probably be starting tomorrow at 1st base with a righty on the mound. David Wright only gets 1 day off after Willie decided to rest Reyes for 2 days. Yes I know the one was an off day but with the Phillies 5 games back I would like to see David have 2 days off. Anyways LETS GO METS!!

Injury: Delgado out 7-10 Days
by
Rob
on Wed 05 Sep 2007 05:07 PM EDT
According to WFAN, Carlos Delgado will miss 7-10 days with a strained hip flexor.
Ouch. As soon as he starts going good, he gets hurt, unbelieveable.

PostGame: Mets-Reds (Game 3)
by
Rob
on Wed 05 Sep 2007 05:03 PM EDT
The Mets lost a blowout to the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 7-0 this afternoon. John Maine was off from the start, allowing 6 runs in 4.1 innings. Tom Shearn got his second win for the Reds, pitching 6 shutout innings.
Tough game for Maine, we should skip him and Ollie in the rotation before October, they need it.
The Mets got no offense today, as they rested Reyes, Alou, Lo Duca, and Green. Delgado was out of the lineup with a strained hip.
Delgados on his way to NY to get an MRI on that hip, hope its nothing serious.
Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto homered for the Reds.
Good for Votto, congrats on your 1st Major League Homer.
With the Phillies losing a heartbreaker to the Braves today, the Mets remain 5 games up in the division
Phils might not recover from that one, OUCH.
LETS GO METS.

PreGame: Mets-Reds (Game 3)

The Mets look for the sweep against the Reds this afternoon at 12:35 Est. The Pitchers will be John Maine (14-8 3.57) for the Mets and journeyman Tom Shearn (1-0 4.76) for the Reds.
Sweep em Johnny.
The Mets will run out their "A-" lineup today:
LF Endy Chavez
2B Luis Castillo
3B David Wright
CF Carlos Beltran

Can the A- Lineup do it again? We'll see

Postgame: Mets-Reds Game 2
by
pvhornet05
on Tue 04 Sep 2007 10:54 PM EDT
The Mets defeated the Reds by the score of 11-7. Paul Lo Duca had 7 rbi's, two 3 run homers and an rbi single. Shawn Green had 3 hits and 2 rbi's. Carlos Beltran also hit a 2 run homer which is no surprise to me with the way he is hitting.
Nice to see Lo Duca and Green step up when Reyes and Wright 0-10 tonight.
Speaking of Reyes he just had a bad game. He went 0-5, got caught stealing and made a bad play when he tried to make a back hand play to Gotay. He looks sluggish and definitely needs a day off tomorrow.
Oliver Perez got the win but this game was definitely not his best. He only struck out 2 and walked 5 while giving up 3 earned runs in 5 innings.
If he wants to be the 4th starter for the post season then he has to pitch better than this.
Carlos Delgado got injured on a swing in the 8th and was holding his hip. We will keep you updated as soon as we hear the diagnosis.
O God no please. Overall great game by the bottom of the Mets lineup and they extend their winning streak to 5.

Pregame: Mets-Reds Game 2

on Tue 04 Sep 2007 07:15 PM EDT
Oliver Perez (12-9 3.84) and the NL East leading Mets will be taking on Matt Belisle (7-8 5.33) and the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10. Perez will be looking for his 13th win this year and help the Mets reach its highest winning streak this year, 5.
Perez and the Mets have to get over that hump and get that 5 game winning streak, for the teams morale.
The lineup is as follows:
SS Jose Reyes 2B Ruben Gotay 3B David Wright CF Carlos Beltran 1B Carlos Delgado LF Moises Alou RF Shawn Green C Paul Lo Duca P Oliver Perez
So much for Milledge getting most of the playing time, anyways LETS GO METS.

Injury: Wright tweaks Hamstring
by
Rob
on Tue 04 Sep 2007 04:47 PM EDT
David Wright tweaked his hamstring while running out a groundball in the 7th inning of yesterdays rout of the Reds. Wright said he expects to play tonight.
Im all for D Wright showeing toughness, but seriously, take a day man.

PostGame: Mets-Reds (Game 1)
by
Rob
on Mon 03 Sep 2007 04:43 PM EDT
The Mets defeated the Reds today by a score of 10-4 in Cincinnati. Pedro Martinez got his first win of the season, pitching 5 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) walking 3 and striking out 5. Aaron Harang took the loss for the Reds.
Pedro is back guys. Its Christmas in September.
Pedro was a little shaky at the start, allowing two first inning runs, but from there on out, he was very very sharp. The only other run he gave up was on a Carlos Beltran error in the 4th.
David Wright and Moises Alou both collected 3 hits on the day, and both hit homers.
David and Moises have both been locked in since the ASB.
Carlos Delgado also chipped in with a Solo Homer of his own.
Delgados on a TEAR.
The Bullpen pitched 4 solid innings, allowing only 1 run in the 9th.
Solid work, but Aaron Sele looked shaky again in the 9th, I think its time to show him the door.
With the Phillies loss today, the Mets now are sitting pretty, 5 games up on the Phils.
LETS GO METS!

Standings: Divison
by
Rob
on Mon 03 Sep 2007 01:36 AM EDT
With the Mets win today over the Braves, and the Phillies loss to the Marlins, the Mets are now 4 games up on the Phils and 7.5 up on the Braves
I think its safe to say the Braves are out of the division race, but never say never.

Postgame: Mets-Atlanta Game 3
by
pvhornet05
on Sun 02 Sep 2007 07:39 PM EDT
The Mets have swept the Braves and extended their division lead to 4 games after the Marlins defeated the Phillies.
Tommy Glavine went 6 innings on 5 hits and 2 strikeouts. He also helped himself with a sac fly in the 2nd.
Ahh nice to see Glavine helping the cause.
David Wright hit a 2 run homer in the 5th which was to straight away center.
I'm happy for Wright who has struggled against Smoltz in his career.
The bullpen came in and only gave up 1 run which was by Wagner as Kelly Johnson drive in pinch runner Chris Woodward.

The Mets will look to, "step on the necks," as Willie would say and try to sweep the Braves this afternoon. Tommy Glavine (11-6 4.15) will be taking the mound for the Mets as he faces his best friend John Smoltz (12-6 3.06).
Lets Go Tom, lets make this a 2 team race.
The batting order will be as follows:
1) SS Jose Reyes
2) 2B Luis Castillo
3) 3B David Wright
4) CF Carlos Beltran
5) 1B Carlos Delgado
6) LF Moises Alou
7) RF Shawn Green
8) C Paul Lo Duca
9) LHP Tom Glavine
Carlos Delgado has connected for 4 homeruns against Smoltz in his career and Shawn Green went 4-4 against Smoltz when these 2 teams met back in August.

PostGame: Mets-Braves (Game 2)
by
Rob
on Sat 01 Sep 2007 07:15 PM EDT
The Mets defeated the Braves today by a score of 5-1. Mike Pelfrey pitched brilliantly, allowing 1 run on 1 hit and 7 Ks in 6 innings. Chuck James took the loss for the Braves, allowing 3 runs in 5 Innings.
Easily Pelfreys best start of his career, he had it all working today, hopefully its signs of things to come.
The Mets got the scoring started in the 2nd when Carlos Beltran and Moises Alou hit back to back singles. Beltran than scored on a Carlos Delgado Double Play Groundball. The Mets scored 2 more off James on Homers by Delgado and Lastings Milledge.
I love how Milledges approach all game was to right field.
The Braves scored their only run on a sac fly by Willie Harris in the 5th.
Pelfreys only blip all day.
Pedro Feliciano picked up the save, pitching 2 shutout innings, striking out 5 of the 6 batters he faced.
There's the Feliciano I know.
The Mets look for the sweep tomorrow, starting at 1:05 Est.
LETS GO METS!

Rob
on Sat 01 Sep 2007 02:35 PM EDT
The Mets play the middle game of their three game set today against the Braves. The Mets will throw newly promoted Mike Pelfrey (0-7 5.92) who will be looking for his first win of the season. The Braves will pitch Chuck James (9-9 4.22) who will be making his first start of the DL. After a strong 2006 campaign, James has struggled this year, especially in his last 5 starts (1-2 7.09).
This should be a slugfest, the way both pitchers have pitched this year. Maybe Pelf will surprise us all with a solid start.
The Mets Lineup is as follows:
SS Jose Reyes
2B Luis Castillo
3B David Wright
CF Carlos Beltran
LF Moises Alou
1B Carlos Delgado
C Paul Lo Duca
RF Lastings Milledge
P Mike Pelfrey

Postgame: Mets-Atlanta Game 1
by
pvhornet05
on Fri 31 Aug 2007 10:29 PM EDT
The Mets man handled Tim Hudson and the Atlanta Braves tonight by the score of 7-1. Tim Hudson lasted 6 innings gave up 6 hits and 4 earned runs. John Maine went 7 innings gave up 1 earned run on a wild pitch and struck out 7. He had his slider working for him tonight along with his high fastball.
Carlos Delgado hit a 3 run homerun in the 4th inning and Reyes hit a solo homerun in the 5th. Gary Cohen said, "Marlon Anderson is the best pitch hitter on the planet," and he didn't disappoint tonight when he came up with the bases loaded in the 9th and hit a base clearing double to basically put any come back to rest.
Heilman came on in the 8th and had a 1 2 3 inning and theen Schowenweis came on in the 9th and looked good.
I'm glad Maine pitched good and went far in the game to give the pen a rest. What can you say about Marlon, he is the best pitch hitter in the game. Carlos Delgado had hard hits and almost had 2 homeruns as his second at bat wwent to the wall. With Pelfrey on for tomorrow this bullpen might be up in the 4th inning.
